You may qualify if you can answer yes to the following questions.
Does your household income meet the program's limits?
Are you a renter household?
Has someone in your household (1) qualified for unemployment or (2) had a decrease in income or increase in expenses due to Covid-19?
Is someone in your household at risk for housing instability or homelessness?
How Much Assistance is Available?
Every household's situation is different, so the amount of
assistance you may receive will be specific to your needs.
Please have all your information and documents ready to ensure faster processing of your application. An application will not begin the review process until all information has been received.
If you are requesting rental assistance, make sure the amount you request will be accepted by your landlord. If they challenge the amount, it can delay your application's processing.
How Can RentReliefRI Help Me?
Depending on your circumstances, RentReliefRI may:
Bring your delinquent rent or utility bill(s) current.
Pay up to 3 months of future rent.
How Do I Apply?
After you answer the prequalifying questions, you must complete an application for assistance and provide documentation.
What Happens Next?
If you qualify for rent assistance, RentReliefRI will request approval from your landlord/property manager. If your landlord/property manager approves,
RentReliefRI will send payments directly to them to bring your rent current.
If you qualify for utility assistance, RentReliefRI will work with your utility company(ies). If your utility company(ies) approve, RentReliefRI will send payments directly to them to bring your utilities current.
What Else Do I Need to Know?
RIH works with nonprofit groups and does not charge a fee for its services. Beware of calls and other solicitations from companies offering to assist you in return for payment.

To apply for RentReliefRI (RentReliefRI), Applicants must submit identification documentation and documentation of RentReliefRI Eligibility Criteria. Examples of acceptable documentation are described below. Additional information, a complete list of the acceptable documentation requirements, and all forms are described and included in RentReliefRI application.
Government Issued Photo ID or Driver’s license
Any other verifiable records or information that establishes applicant identity
Residency (any of the following):
A current lease agreement; in lieu of signed lease agreement, documentation that establishes a pattern of rent
A utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, cable, oil, water, sewer, satellite, heat, cell phone) with the address of current residence stated in the applicant’s name;
Attestation by a landlord that is verified as the owner or management agent
A personal check or bank statement with the applicant’s name and address of current residence;
A current automobile or renter’s insurance policy with the applicant’s name and address of current residence;
A payroll check or W-2 with the applicant’s name and address of current residence; or
Any other verifiable records or information that establishes applicant current residency.
Annual income (e.g., wage statement, W-2s tax filings interest statement, unemployment compensation statement, bank statement); or
A copy of Form 1040 as filed with the IRS for the household.
Attestation from an employer or case manager with knowledge of household income
Evidence that applicant is currently receiving SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, National Grid low-income rate or other state assistance where income eligibility requirement is the same or lower than the income eligibility threshold for RentReliefRI
Unemployment Compensation Statement
Verification of unemployment eligibility received from RI Department of Labor and Training
Bank statements showing unemployment direct deposit.
Any verifiable supporting documentation.
Demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability:
Past due utility or rent notice or eviction notice, 5-day demand notice or eviction hearing notice
Communication from Landlord stating rental arrearages
Documentation proving unsafe or unhealthy living conditions
